Ontario’s first case of the Brazil coronavirus variant reported in Toronto

Ontario’s first case of the coronavirus variant first detected in Brazil has been reported in Toronto.

Toronto Public Health confirmed the case in a news release issued Sunday afternoon. It is also believed to be the first case of the variant in Canada.

TPH also reported the city’s first case of the South African variant. This is the second case of the B.1.351 variant in the province.

The first confirmed case of the South African variant in Ontario was reported last week and was detected in a person in Mississauga.

As of Sunday, there are 175 cases of COVID-19 variants of concern in the province.
