The NHL and NHLPA have reached a tentative deal on a 56-game season, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman has learned.

Friedman adds that the NHLPA will hold a conference call Friday while a call with the NHL Board of Governors will be scheduled thie weekend where both sides are expected to vote on the agreement.

The league and player’s association cleared a big hurdle earlier this month after agreeing to keep the economic framework in place.

The NHL was planning to start the season on Jan. 13 with non-playoff teams reporting for training camp on Dec. 28 and others on Jan. 1.
