Bicyclist dies after hit-and-run in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN — A bicyclist was killed late Friday by a motorist who fled the scene, the Middletown Police Department said in a press release.

According to the release, the police and fire departments were dispatched to the area West Main Road in the area of the Harbor Village apartment complex at 11:20 p.m. for a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a bicycle.

Upon arrival, police said a 40-year-old man had succumbed to his injuries and that the motorist involved fled the scene. Initial witness statements indicate a sedan, possibly white in color, struck the bicyclist and continued to travel south on West Main Road, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident, who may have been in the area at that time, to please contact the Middletown Police Detective Division at (401) 846-1144.

The identity of the victim being withheld until next of kin is notified. Police said the accident remains under investigation and updates will be provided as they become available.
