Carlos Sainz Jr. will be replacing Sebastian Vettel at Ferrari in 2021, sources told Nate Saunders of ESPN.
The 25-year-old earned his first F1 podium result with a third-place finish at the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix behind Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly.
Sainz, who has driven for McLaren since 2019, will slot in alongside Charles Leclerc, with an official announcement expected as early as Thursday.
Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo, who was seen as another candidate for the Ferrari seat, could be in line to take Sainz’s spot with McLaren, Saunders notes.
On Tuesday, Vettel announced his departure from Ferrari once the 32-year-old’s contract expires later this year, and the team was swift in finding a replacement.
