Sting No Longer Under WWE Contract

Pro Wrestling Sheet has learned Sting is not currently under contract with WWE.

Sources tell us that despite the wrestling legend not being under contract at the moment, it does not mean the two sides wont work out a possible merchandising deal going forward.

The WCW legend’s exit from WWE was first speculated upon after the Major Wrestling Figure podcast dropped news yesterday regarding his abrupt withdrawal from a toy line.

The statement from Mattel explained: “Due to circumstances out of our control Sting needed to be removed from Legends Series 7. We’ll look to include this figure in a future wave if he becomes available to us again.”

Shortly after, Cody fanned the flames of speculation regarding Sting possibly making an appearance in AEW by replying to the tweet with the GIF of him listening from afar. Sting also tweeted twice about AEW recently, both regarding Lance Archer and Jake “the Snake” Roberts.

Sting first joined WWE in 2014 after decades of being described as the best wrestler to never work there. His first appearance for the company took place at Survivor Series and his first WWE match took place at WrestleMania 31 against Triple H, which he lost.

“The Icon” returned in August and eventually challenged for the WWE Championship for the first time in his career at Night of Champions against Seth Rollins. Unfortunately, Sting suffered an injury during the match and it brought his in-ring career to an end. The wrestler later explained he got surgery for cervical spinal stenosis afterward and was lucky things didn’t end up worse.

Sting was inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2016.
