Coveted transfer Trey Murphy III is headed to Virginia.
Houston, Villanova and Pitt were also options for Murphy, who publicly disclosed the finalists for his services last week.
A 6-8, 200-pound guard, Murphy announced his decision on Monday in interviews with multiple outlets, including WatchStadium.com and 24/7 Sports.
“I’m going to Virginia and I picked them because of my trust and belief in coach (Tony) Bennett and the coaching staff,” Murphy said. “He is a man of high character and his attention to detail is something that I really like a lot,” he added.
“They are one of the best defensive teams in the country and that is vital to my success and development and offensively they get their shooters open and get good shots,” Murphy said.
Murphy averaged 13.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game last season as a sophomore.
