New York’s football teams have made a major deal with each other. The Jets traded defensive lineman Leonard Williams to the Giants for a 2020 third-round pick and a 2021 fifth-rounder.
The Jets and Giants play each other in two weeks. The Williams deal marks the first time ever the two teams have made a trade with each other.
The Daily News reported earlier Monday that the 1-6 Jets were shopping Williams and wideout Robby Anderson. Williams will be a free agent at the end of the season. If he signs an extension with the Giants, the 2021 pick goes from the fifth round to the fourth round, according to an ESPN report.
Williams has 17 career sacks and none this season. He was the No. 6 pick in the 2015 draft; with this trade, not a single player drafted that year by former GM Mike Maccagnan remains a Jet.
