In a stunning move, the Green Bay Packers are expected to release defensive lineman Mike Daniels, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo on Wednesday.
The Packers had explored a trade of Mike Daniels, but couldn’t make it happen, Garafolo also said. Daniels was due $8.1 million this season in base salary and roster bonuses.
After trying to sign Gerald McCoy, the Cleveland Browns figured to at least take a look at Daniels, Garafolo also reported.
Daniels has spent his entire seven-year career with the Packers. In 102 games (72 starts), he has recorded 29.0 sacks, 236 tackles (158 solo, 78 assisted), and has posted 47 tackles-for-loss.
