White Sox place Tim Anderson on 10-day injured list

CHICAGO – Prior to tonight’s series opener vs. Minnesota, the Chicago White Sox made the following four roster moves:

  • Placed SS Tim Anderson on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to June 26) with a sprained right ankle;
  • Designated 1B/DH Yonder Alonso for assignment;
  • Purchased the contract of LHP Ross Detwiler from Class AAA Charlotte;
  • Recalled OF Daniel Palka from Charlotte

Detwiler, 33, is scheduled to start tonight against the Twins. He is 1-2 with a 3.98 ERA (19 ER/43.0 IP), 35 strikeouts and one complete game over eight starts with Charlotte this season after signing with the White as a minor-league free agent on May 9.

Detwiler, 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds, has gone 23-42 with a 4.36 ERA (283 ER/584.0 IP) and 354 strikeouts in 190 games (83 starts) over parts of 10 major-league seasons with Washington (2007-14), Texas (2015), Atlanta (2015), Cleveland (2016), Oakland (2016) and Seattle (2018). A native of St. Louis, Detwiler originally was selected by the Nationals in the first round (sixth overall) of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft out of Missouri State. He will wear uniform No. 54.
