Butler MBB announces 2019-20 non-conference schecule

Butler Men’s Basketball has announced their 2019-20 non-conference schedule.

The schedule includes match-ups with six 2019 NCAA Tournament teams as well as the possibility of playing a seventh. In all, seven power conference opponents are on the docket to prepare the Bulldogs for the rigorous BIG EAST slate.

There are eight home weekend contests for the Bulldogs during the exhibition and non-conference portion of their 2019-20 schedule. Match-ups at Hinkle Fieldhouse include Minnesota as part of the Gavitt Tipoff Games Tuesday, Nov. 12, and a game against Florida on Saturday, Dec. 7.

“This is a schedule that will challenge us greatly and should be highly exciting for our Bulldog fans,” said Butler coach LaVall Jordan, who enters his third season leading the Bulldogs. “We have high-quality opponents coming to Hinkle Fieldhouse combined with several true road games and great match-ups on neutral courts. We always want to prepare our guys for the BIG EAST season by playing tough, talented teams. We checked all the boxes that we wanted to with this non-conference schedule.”

Butler will host Wofford, a 2019 NCAA Tournament team, and Morehead State in on-campus games as part of the Hall of Fame Classic on Nov. 16 and 22, respectively. The Bulldogs will then travel to Kansas City for the Hall of Fame Classic, playing two games against a field comprised of Oklahoma, Missouri, and Stanford. Those match-ups will be announced later this summer.

The Bulldogs had previously announced the regular season opener against IUPUI Nov. 6, which follows exhibition contests with IU-Kokomo and the University of Indianapolis. Additional home games for Butler include New Orleans (Nov. 9), Southern (Dec. 14), and Louisiana-Monroe (Dec. 28).

Butler will travel to Ole Miss Dec. 3 in a return game from a home-and-home series that began in Indianapolis last season. The Bulldogs and Baylor will meet a week later (Dec. 10) in Waco, Texas, as part of the inaugural season of the BIG EAST-Big 12 scheduling alliance.

Purdue is Butler’s 2019 opponent in the annual Crossroads Classic that will be played Saturday, Dec. 21 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis.

Butler’s home schedule will also include all nine BIG EAST rivals. Game times and television assignments for all games will be announced in September in conjunction with the full BIG EAST slate.

Butler, coming off its fifth consecutive postseason appearance, returns four starters for the 2019-20 season. That includes All-BIG EAST guard Kamar Baldwin.
