A bright start to the season has turned somewhat dark for the Los Angeles Galaxy.

With star Zlatan Ibrahimovic finishing off his two-game suspension, the visiting Galaxy look to avoid a fifth straight defeat Friday night against an Orlando City side that will also be minus a key contributor.

Los Angeles (7-5-1, 22 points) opened the season 7-1-1, but has been outscored 9-3 while going 0-4-0 in May. The Galaxy last dropped five straight MLS matches in 2017. They are also trying to avoid a third straight shutout for the first time since that same season.

With Ibrahimovic (nine goals) banned for violent conduct from a 2-0 loss at New York City FC on May 11, the Galaxy might have bottomed out with Sunday’s 1-0 home loss to previously winless Colorado.

“We need to work,” coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto told the Galaxy’s official website. “We’ve got a roster, and we need to work with everyone and get something in the next game.

“Any team can beat you, like you can beat everyone. So, the year is long. … We need to try to start to get the points and play better.”

L.A. can start by finally winning a match at Orlando, where it has lost the only two previous meetings played there.

Orlando City (4-6-3, 15 points) should also have some confidence after ending a three-game losing streak with a rousing 5-1 home win over FC Cincinnati on Sunday. Tesho Akindele and Nani each recorded a brace and Dom Dwyer added his fourth goal of the season for the Lions, who scored more than two goals in a match for just the second time in 2019.

“We must take the positive things from (that) game and then continue to work hard and continue to believe,” Nani, who has a team-high seven goals, told Orlando’s official website. “There (are) a lot of games to win and we have a great chance.”

As Orlando looks to win two straight for the first time this season, it won’t have Dwyer to help. The veteran striker will sit after receiving his fifth yellow card of the campaign last weekend.
