The San Jose Sharks can clinch a berth in the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs on Tuesday.
After Monday night’s crushing 7-3 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights, the Sharks have an off day on Tuesday and do not play until Thursday in Los Angeles.
But, if the Colorado Avalanche defeat the Minnesota Wild in any fashion on Tuesday night (8 p.m. ET; ALT, FS-N+, NHL.TV), the Sharks will officially clinch a berth in the playoffs.
Had San Jose earned at least one point in the standings againt Vegas on Monday, they would have clinched a berth. Now, they leave their fate — at least for tonight — in the hands of the Colorado Avalanche.
The Sharks (43-22-8, 94 points) sit second in the Pacific Division standings, seven points above Vegas (41-27-5, 87 points), and one point behind the Calgary Flames (44-21-7, 95 points), who have already clinched a playoff berth.
